Camilla Review Page

Camilla Posters

We made this poster with the picture of the possessed daughter looking straight towards the camera, this shows to the audience what the short film is roughly about but doesn't give away too much. We chose this as our final poster.

We also took a picture of the priest about to walk up to the house, this is dull and doesn't show a lot, but is similar to the original exorcist poster, where theres the priest with the street light on him, just in front of the house.

This is our third poster idea, we like this as it shows a lot with the knife in the foreground and the priest with Mary in the background, we didn't choose this as our actual poster as it's hard for the audience to see what this is about.

Shots on Set

Seb placing the lights in front of the house. We had to move the lights around to get the most effective use of the light.

Shooting a shot of the house across the street.

Here,I placed the camera on a small skateboard to capture a shot of the priest as he is walking towards the door.

Here is how I shot the 'taxi' pulling up at the house.

Costume and Props

Father Anderson's costume: For Aaron to look like a priest his costume consisted of a black shirt (with priest collar), black trousers, black shoes and a long jacket for when he arrives at the house. Props: We also gave him a bible along with a flask of holy water to give to Ian. Along with that he also had some rosary beads.

Mary's costume: Hannah had to wear pajamas to make it look like she has been in bed for days. We also tied her up by her arms and legs.

Jenna's costume: For Jenna's costume she had to wear standard casual clothing a mother would wear along with neckless and bracelet. Props: We gave her a blood soaked knife for when she is possessed.

Ian's costume: For Ian's costume it is just casual clothes of a black t-shirt and jeans to make him look like a teenage boy.  Props: Ian gets given a flask of holy water by Father Anderson.

Final Cast

Name: Aaron Lee
Character: Father Anderson
Aaron was the only member of the final cast who came to the auditions. We where blown way after his audition and was a certainty for the role of the priest. We asked him to grow his beard to make him look older.

Name: Hannah Fewings
Character: Mary
Not many people came to the auditions auditioning for the part of Mary. However our teacher introduced to Hannah and we cast her for the role of Mary. We also had to get a black wig to cover up her red hair as it would not suit our film.

Name: Ruthie Rosental
Character: Jenna
We only had one person come to the audition for the role of Jenna but she lived too far away. Thankfully our teacher had links to a theater company and this is where we found Ruthie to play the role of Jenna.

Name: Philip Lee
Character: Ian
Last but not least was Philip. We had many problems filling this role as the original actor for the role of Ian broke his ankle and was unable to travel down for filming which forced us into changing the script from the 'Father' role into the 'Step-brother' role. The next actor we got was from our school but was unable to comedown on the last day of filming which created many problems but thankfully Aaron Lee called his younger brother down (Philip Lee) and suited the role perfectly and did an amazing job on the final day of filming.

Costume and Props

Name: Philip Lee
Character: Ian (The Step Brother)
Costume: Ian's costume is of him wearing a t-shirt and jeans, in order for him to look like a stereotypical boy.
Props: Ian gets given a flask of holy water by Father Anderson.

Name: Ruthie Rosenthal
Character: Jenna (The Mother)
Costume: Ruthie's costume is of her wearing a casual black top and leggings in order for her to look like a stereotypical mother. The reason why we chose her to wear the colour black was so that it added to the scary atmosphere of the film and the colour black represents death.
Props: We gave her a blood soaked knife for when she is possessed.

Name: Hannah Fewings
Character: Mary/Camilla (The possessed daughter)
Costume: Hannah's costume is of her wearing pajamas, so that it would look she has been possessed for a few days and left on her bed tied up.
Props: Black wig to give Hannah and more scary looking hair style.
Name: Aaron Lee
Character: Father Anderson (The Priest)
Costume: Aaron's costume is of him wearing a black shirt, trousers and coat, with a white colour so that he would look like a real stereotypical priest.
Props: We also gave him a bible along with a flask of holy water to give to Ian. Along with that he also had some rosary beads.

What a Rush!

On the Last day of filming Me and the Crew had to re-film everything because of very unreliable actors.

I had to offer payment to Phil Lee, The actors we got to step in for the part of Ian. Which was a Godsend considering he was the best out of the 3 Ians that was casted.

Here's the Rough Cut

Make Up for the Priest's Death

First we had to stick the scar we had bought onto Aaron's neck by using Liquid Latex.
We then added foundation on the scar so that it would blend in with Aaron's neck.

To cover the patch around the scar we also had to apply fake blood all around it so it would look real.
Lastly we applied a more runny type of blood created by maple syrup and red dye to give the effect that the blood is pouring out from Aaron's neck like it would if someone had really slit his neck. The only problem was that the blood would stain the carpet flooring, so we found an old rug that would match the carpet colour so that it wouldn't look out of place and we wouldn't ruin the carpet flooring.

Hannah's Make Up

In order to make our film look as scary as possible for our audience watching we had to make sure the make up we applied on our characters looked believable and realistic. After getting the right equipment, a layer of laytex so we could get a more wrinkly look to Hannah’s face and allow the wax being later applied to stick better. Next three strips of wax were rolled into sausage like shapes then placed on Hannah's face. The edges of the wax had to be rubbed into the skin so that the scars would be able to blend in with the whole face. After small slits in the wax were added where the fake blood would be applied, so the audience can easily tell they were scars/cuts. Later white cream was mixed with some powdered foundation in order for the face not to look pale. While applying the make up we had to be careful to not get too much make up on the scars, otherwise there was a high chance they could fall off. After covering the whole face and neck with the cream make up, it was turn for the eye shadow. In order to get a good effect black and a hint of purple eye shadow were mixed to make it look like she has been possessed. Next a light black eye shadow was applied to show her cheek bones. An even more fainter shade of black was added to parts of her face so it looked like she hadn't washed her face. Finally, Hannah wore a bald cap so that the wig could be placed on her head.

Location Shots

For our film to be successful, we needed a scary, believable location where an exorcism could take place. We decided to use Arjun's house as it is on the Corner of a road making it look that its on its own, followed by some creepy looking bushes on the corner to create a scary and eerie atmosphere for the audience watching.

The drive way, gave us a great idea to reveal the priest slowly and not show his face using close ups of his feet and hand knocking on the door. Doing this helped emphasise to the audience the great importance of the character and also to keep the audience intrigued.

This location is where Jenna is crying being comforted by her step son Ian and also where Ian has a short conversation with the priest before they both heads up stairs.

For shooting the scene where Ian and the priest walk up stairs we had to move the photo at the top as it was a religious picture and would get in the way of a few different shots. This scene allowed us to take advantage of both high and low angle shots keeping the film more interesting for the audience watching.

This is where we filmed the exorcism of Mary, as you can see we had to make massive changes to Arjun’s room to make it look as if it was an 18 year old girl’s room, so we had to change the bed sheets as a girl wouldn’t have blue colour sheets.  We also had to be careful in not getting the toy cupboard in the shots of our film and also clear the remaining toys on the floor (yes he still plays with toys).
